INTRODUCTION

Mystic Blue is an independent rock band that was formed in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1996. Their unique sound blends elements of indie rock, classic rock, folk rock and alternative to create a sound that is both familiar and new. 30 Years of building the foundation, building form the experience and styles of many influences.
Mystic Blue is more than just a band - we're a family. We've been making music together for over two decades, and we're still going strong. Our music is a reflection of who we are as people - honest, authentic, and unapologetic. We believe in creating music that speaks to the heart and soul, and we're committed to sharing that message with the world.
Mystic Blue started out as a couple of friends looking to have some fun playing some music and make a small band. Derrick, Michael & Jason started down in the basement of Derrick's parents, trying to get some songs together, find a style and an identity. Jason soon decided to leave and pursue other interests. In the meantime, Derricl's brother Trevor Linfoot showed an interest in playing in the band. At first they asked Trevor if he'd be interested in playing drums, but Trevor had other ideas. He wanted to play Bass Guitar, which he had never played before. So, with some practicing Trevor became Mystic Blue's Bass guitarist. Within a few months, Derrick & Michael soon approached AJ Pearce about joining the band as the drummer. AJ had no experience playing a full drum kit, just drumming styles on military drums. AJ looked at the opportunity and was very interested in learning to play drums, but to also join a Band. So the band grew and was completed as a 4 piece group. Over the next few years, the band jammed out of fun, with little performances at the local Cadet Corps, teen dances. One Halloween dance, the band invited Michael's father Douglas Bourne to join in and let him enjoy some fun from his years of playing in local bands. This was a highlight for Michael at the time.
By 1998 AJ had decided to move on and to focus on his love of theatre. During this time, Trevor had also decided to move on and pursue a career in the Canadian Navy. Making the ongoing joke within the band about Trevor quitting and then having a reunion by the next weekend jam a reality. In 1999 Derrick & Michael had another mutual friend who played guitar and was interested in playing in a band once again. Rob soon joined the band and became the Lead Guitarist. They jammed and worked on reforming and finding their style/sound for a few months. There was a large hole missing in the band at this time still. They were in need of a good drummer to fill in and play the style they were all looking to play. This begun the adventure of looking for any drummers that would be interested in playing in the band. A young drummer answered the call and auditioned for the band. Curtis played with Derrick & Michael and discussed the joy of playing such a variety of music, and found our interests intriguing. Curtis was welcomed in and became the newest member of the band. Mystic Blue was once again a full working band. There was a Bass guitarist that joined the band for a very short period of time, before moving onto play with another local band. The group worked on many styles, while taking a shot at writing and creating their own music during this time. Having written 2 songs as a group. The band seemed to be moving forward and growing stronger.
That all changed by the end of 2000. Curtis and his wife welcomed their baby Girl into the world, then decided to move to Edmonton to raise their daughter. While Michael found it was becoming harder to participate and contribute to the band. Derrick & Rob moved forward for a few more months, trying to create some music together. By 2001, Mystic Blue had broken up and moved on. Michael moved to Toronto, ONT in the fall of 2001 and had some success playing with some local bands. Derrick had moved to Campbell River, BC for work. AJ moved to the UK where he pursued his career in the theatrical arts. Trevor moved around Canada, and is currently still serving as a Member of the Canadian Navy.

In 2013, Michael had moved back to Calgary, where Derrick had been back for a few years prior. AJ had recently moved back to Calgary with his young family. In 2016, Michael reached out to his old band mates and asked if they were interested in getting together and having some fun playing some music once again. For old times sake. Derrick, AJ & Jason agreed to get together and play some music, maybe form a new band in the end. After a few weekends, Jason moved on and continued to work with another band he was a part of. Leaving Derrick, Michael & AJ as a trio once again. 2023, Currently, the trio haven't stopped playing together, having fun and making music. Michael had created a small recording studio in his basement and the band has been having fun recording songs they've loved playing for over 30 years, while taking all their experiences and growing their musical catalogue even more. Years of talking about recording music and sharing it with their friends and family, they have found the opportunity to make these wishes come true. They are continuing to make memories, while having the best fun they can. They've even had the opportunity to have Michael's Fathers band, Spring Water, reunite and record some music together as well, while bringing back some of the fun and memories they all have been able to share, together.
